We're always excited to discover a new place we haven't been to before, and so when we saw a walk in this months issue of Cumbria Life Magazine that we'd not heard of, we set off to explore! Wreay Woods is a Nature Reserve which follows the river Peterill and is teaming with wildlife. Being October when we visited, the woods were displaying their full autumnal glory and the sunshine and fresh damp air were a perfect combination. Peaceful and tranquil, wandering by the river we soaked it all in, not wanting to chat and spoil the peace!
This walk is muddy in a few sections but board walks help to navigate the worst parts. It is an easy walk across relatively flat terrain, although the path through the woods is uneven and narrow. We chose to follow a circular route which you can print out at the link below, walking just the 4.5mile circular "Wreay extention"
