A bit of a different blog post today for those of you looking to really explore the area surrounding Tottergill Farm Cottages. As you can see from spending a little time reading our blog, there's lots to see and do around here - but where do you start? Recently we had a friend visiting us from Ontario in Canada and we wanted to pack in as much as possible into a short space of time, to really show her some of this beautiful area of the country. We thought that perhaps it would be a helpful thing to share our itinery that perhaps you might like to use to plan your own holiday, tweaking and adjusting as you go to best suit you. So here's what we managed to see and do in just a few days...
Friday: A walk along Hadrian's Wall. Starting at Cawfields quarry is one of our favourite stretches and it's fairly short. Find out more here
Saturday: Carlisle Castle and Carlisle Cathedral, with lunch/refreshments at the award-winning Coffee-Genius. We'd also highly reccommend Tulle House Museum in Carlisle if you have time.
Sunday: Exploring Kendal and Afternoon Tea at The Rampsbeck Country House in Ullswater on the way home.
Monday: A daytrip to Edinburgh by train from Carlisle (1.5hrs of beautiful scenery) to see The Castle, Christmas Market, Scott Monument, St. Giles Cathedral & The Elephant Room Cafe ("Birth Place" of Harry Potter)
Other things we also did included walking at Gelt Woods and visiting Lanercost Priory and Tea Rooms. All highly recommended!
Perhaps after all that, you'll wish you planned on staying for longer?!
